Geocaching – The World’s Largest Treasure Hunt
If you’re like me and enjoy a good puzzle, a mystery or a really tricky crossword, then I think you’re bound to enjoy the new craze that’s sweeping not just the UK, but also much of the rest of the world, Geocaching.

It’s an any day, any time adventure that can take you to amazing and beautiful places or even just to a place in your local area that you’ve never been before. There are 2 million Geocaches worldwide and there are over 100 within a short walk or cycle ride of Carden here in Moray.
To join in this exciting hunt and start finding them yourself, just get out your phone, download the simple app to register your free Geocaching account and you’re ready to go. It’s as easy as that.
The Geocaches come in different size, some include tricky little puzzles or clues to find them, many of them are quite easy to spot and others, well they can include a bit of real detective work.
What We Found Whilst Geocaching
When Debbie and I recently hunted down a few around the nearby activity centre The Loft and the ancient Celtic centre of Burghead, we were amazed at what we found in the boxes. In addition to the log book into which we could record our names and a few words we found tips for great local cafes or places to visit, nick-nacks we were encouraged to take away (leaving something in return of course) and even a little rubber duck that was making its way from Canada to the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. We can’t wait to get our bikes out and seek out more of the caches around Findhorn, Forres, Kinloss and Elgin all just a few miles by bike.
A mini break or perhaps a week staying with us here at Carden is the perfect place from which you and your family (kids adore this) can enjoy hunting out many hundreds of these Geocaches and we’ll even add a real treasure to anyone who completes the fifty we have listed on our Passport to Treasure.
It’s A Lot More Fun By Bike
Although you can ‘hunt’ by car, it’s a lot more fun to enjoy walking or perhaps cycling around this beautiful area of Scotland and if you don’t have bikes, we can arrange them for you.
If you would like to know more about Geocaching around Moray or perhaps staying with us here at Carden, either check out the link to Geocaching or mail me here at Carden and I’ll be very happy to help you make your arrangements.
Debbie and I hope to see you soon as you enjoy Geocaching in Moray.
